Alpha Chi Supports Domestic Violence Awareness
Shelter for Help in Emergency
1 in 4 women will be physically, emotionally, and/or mentally abused by an intimate partner in their lifetime. AXO has partnered with the Shelter for Help in Emergency to support awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault. This local shelter provides comprehensive services to these women affected by domestic violence, including: 24-hr hotline, 24-hr shelter, counseling, volunteer services, and programs for children and teens. As a member of AXO, we have the opportunity to work directly with the shelter as a volunteer. Many of our members take on this intensive training to provide care for the women affected by abuse. This cause hits close to home as UVA has been directly affected by sexual assault and domestic violence in the past. Therefore, we are very passionate to be a part of this philanthropy.
Bridgefest
Fall Semester
Alpha Chi Omega partners with Beta Fraternity to host a Bridgefest to raise money for the Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE). AXO and Beta work together to host a live band and provide catered food to encourage the UVA community to come out for a good time, while supporting a good cause. AXO sells tickets for entry into the event and all the proceeds go to the shelter.
Bracket Challenge
March
During the basketball season, AXO holds tabling events to sell brackets and t-shirts for March Madness. The proceeds of the sales from the brackets and shirts go directly to SHE. Incentives for winning this philanthropy bracket challenge include gift cards to restaurants on the Corner and a signed basketball from Tony Bennett.
Healthy Relationships Week
February
AXO celebrates this Valentine's Day month by promoting healthy relationships. Members post and campaign #LoveIs around grounds, defining what a healthy relationship means to them. During Valentine's Day Week, members of AXO make cards for the women who are  currently staying at the shelter to remind them that they are loved.
